After nearly 60 years in Midtown Manhattan, L’Oréal USA is moving its headquarters west, to 10 Hudson Yards. The company has signed on to be the building’s second tenant, and will take over ten floors of the state-of-the-art tower, which has a glass facade. The company’s 1,300 employees will soon be able to enjoy the stunning views of the Hudson River. The new offices overlook the High Line. The building was designed and constructed to be “green,” and has a Platinum LEED certification. The majority of L’Oréal USA’s corporate functions and brand teams including Essie, Garnier, Lancôme, La Roche-Posay, L’Oréal Paris, Matrix, Maybelline, Redken and SkinCeuticals will be housed in the new offices. Approximately 150 employees, including creative teams from across L’Oréal USA’s brand portfolio and The Body Shop, recently relocated to the nearby Terminal Stores building. Terminal Stores is a revitalized West Chelsea warehouse complex that used to be home to a transfer station for the New York Central Railroad. A Customized Office Layout L’Oréal USA worked with Gensler, a leading global design firm, to custom-design the office space to facilitate collaboration. The layout features an open floor plan with floor-to-ceiling windows. A high-tech solar shade system automatically adjusts to occupancy, and the amount of outdoor light. The office layout includes an interactive virtual retail room for advanced retail planning, a technical salon and treatment room for product evaluation, and a learning center for employee trainings. The employee cafe boasts a 4,000 square foot terrace, with indoor and outdoor seating areas – and striking views of the Hudson River. Other employee amenities include a flagship company store, an employee nail salon, an on-site employee concierge, and a wellness suite with two meditation rooms. Designed To Inspire Creativity The move is indicative of a major shift that ushers in a new era of innovation, a spokesperson for the company stated. The team at L’Oreal USA will continue to develop new market opportunities, such as its recent technological development – a UV Skin Monitor. Frédéric Rozé, president and CEO at L’Oréal USA, stated, “Hudson Yards and Terminal Stores have a dynamic and creative energy that aligns with the culture we are building at L’Oréal USA.” Rozé continued, “L’Oréal is a 107-year-old company with the heart of a startup. These two locations represent the new entrepreneurial spirit of Manhattan, and the spaces we’ve created are a modern new home for L’Oréal USA that will inspire the future of our company.” Stephen M. Ross, chairman and founder of Related Companies, said, “L’Oreal USA’s culture of creativity and forward-thinking will thrive in the iconic 10 Hudson Yards tower, and we are thrilled to have them as one of our inaugural tenants.”
